While this “King Ranch” deer is a great deer, it is no where near as big as is claimed. Tremendous exageration of all features. For example, the spread is claimed to be 34″. O.K. This deer is probably 16″ from the tip of one ear to the other. (Where I hunt they average about 13″) That means that his horns would have to be outside of his ears by 9″ on each side. Looking at the right side you can tell that it is wider than his ears by no more than 3″ or 4″. That would put the spread at 22″ to 24″. Also the claim is that the G-4′s are longer than the drops, but you can clearly see that the drops are longer than the G-4′s. And, it only mentions one drop and there are actually two. I think there’s some hanky-panky going on here. I think this deer would probably break the 200″ mark for a typical but will not net well B&C because of the drops and other oddities. P.S. 228 lbs is not very big for a protein fed whitetail. Average at best. I shot a 41\2 year old eight point two years ago that weighed that much. Daryl
This is a very nice deer, and i would love to see it walk in front of me during deer season, but for a deer to weigh that much in Texas is a little far fetched. I can MAYBE understand if it was fed well within the ranch area, but still seems a little odd for a deer in the south to weigh this much. I could understand if this deer was taken in the northern regions of the country, such as Iowa where nutrients and protein could be found pretty much under every footstep you take. Whitetails just dont grow as big (body wise) as they would in the northern areas.
Daryl Clenney, you just wish that you could kill deer like that. Did you have the measuring tape in your hands no. So keep your damn opinion to yourself. What you said is a damn lie. In north carolina the deer are little as hell and the average buck around here is 18″. So tell another lie. You just don’t know how to hunt is all it is. When you want me to teach you some things about hunting let me know. Dont think about lying to the viewers again or you won’t have to worry about finding me because I’ll find you.
hey nice deer i hope you get a shot at another trophy
Scotty Byrd acts tough on the internet…lol
Theres no way it weighs 228. Look at the body size compared to the dogs. Also the world record typical whitetail was killed by Milo Hanson in 1993 in Saskatchewan Canada and scored 213 5/8. So if this true then we should have new world record if it scores 224 (which it doesnt because everyone in the hunting world would have heard about it). Dont get me wrong this is an awesome buck but not as big as its said to be.
I never saw the part that said anyone actually shot this deer.Which is why its not in the record book and why there is a dog with him in the picture and not a hunter.
This deer is not at all as big as it says. and Scottie Byrd you shouldn’t beleive everything you read. Only Muture deer have approximate 6 inch ears. In the scoring of the gross they did not include the drop tines which clearly shows that this is false or they are not a B&C official scorer. The dog is behind the deer which should make they deer look larger and it does not, This deer might field dress to approximate 165-180 at the most. Most biologist are official scorers and would not score they deer until it is drying period is done. Why is the biologist sending this email? I saw a Kansas deer shot last year that was a 7 by 7 that would score in the low 190′s that was just as big enough bigger
I just added a new post that has a presentation by Eugene R. Fuchs of the Kerr Wildlife Management Area, Texas Parks and Wildlife (www.tpwd.state.tx.us/hillcountry). It outlines how to guestimate the B&C score of a buck while it is still alive and moving around. Check it out.

Daryl Clenney your an idiot 228 pounds is a huge buck for Texas. That deer would score that high and the reason they only mention one droptine is because they are both equally long. I guess your not a Texan because you don’t know much about our deer and you are calling one of the premier Game ranch’s in the country a liar
Daryl Clenney….you are a freakin idiot…enough said!
If this buck weighs 228 and scores 224 then the hound weighs 220 and scores 150!!!
ive seen bigger its a good little deer if its your first buck or somthing but ive seen and shot bigger.BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!!
NICE BUCK BUT HANSON IS TILL BETTER BUT NICE BUCK
All I have to say is if that deer weighs 228 thats one hell of a big hound. LOL
